Williston State Ends Pioneer Season in Semifinals

The MCC Pioneers travelled to Williston, ND for a semifinal contest against the MonDak Conference regular season champion Williston State Tetons. The end result was a 93-60 Teton victory that ended the Pioneers season with a 15-17 record. 

The Tetons led 23-15 after one quarter of play and extended that lead to 42-25 at the half despite shooting just 28% in the 2nd quarter. The teams battle to a standstill in the 3rd quarter but the Pioneers ran out of gas in the 4th quarter as the Tetons outscored the Pioneers 28-13 in the final frame. 

All 5 starters for the Tetons scored in double figures and they also got 23 points off the bench. The Pioneers had 3 players score in double figures led by Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain). Sanz scored 22 points (9-22 FG, 2-6 3's, 2-2 FT), and grabbed 7 rebounds  while Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) added 18 points (8-15 FG, 2-3 FT) and 10 rebounds. Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) finished with 17 points (7-20 FG, 1-7 3's, 2-2 FT).
