League Leading Williston State Handles Pioneer Women

The MonDak Conference leading Williston State Tetons flexed their muscles on Thursday night at the MCC Centra overwhelming the MCC Pioneers 104-59 to remain unbeated in conference play. 

The Tetons put 4 players in double figures led by Taylah Murtagh with 29 points (9-19 FG, 4-14 3's, 7-8 FT) and 5 assists. Willliston led for the entirety of the contest and also got 24 points from Leila Hefferman and 16 more from Jersey Berg. Dani Jordan added 15 points. 

MCC also had 4 players scored in double figures as Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) had 13 points (6-15 FG, 1-4 3's, 0-2 FT) and another 13 points (4-10 FG, 1-3 3's, 4-6 FT) from Pien Draisma (Sophomore - Katwijk, Netherlands). Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) and Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) each had 10 points in the loss.

  • The Pioneers shot 25-59 (42%) from the field and 5-21 (24%) from the 3-point line. MCC hit only 4-12 from the free throw line. 
  • The Tetons shot 38-76 (50%) from the field and 7-26 (27%) from the 3-point line. WSC hit 21-25 at the free throw line. 
  • Williston State outrebounded the Pioneers 43-25. WSC had 11 offensive boards and MCC had 3. 
  • The Pioneers turned the basketball over 27 times compared to just 14 for Williston. 

The Pioneers are now 12-14 overall and 4-4 in MonDak Conference play. Next up is a trip to Devils Lake, ND for a Super Bowl Sunday showdown with Lake Region State College at 11:00 AM MST.
