Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Stockdale, CA) had a game for the ages on Thursday night in Miles City, MT. Mbagwu scored 28 points (12-13 FG, 4-6 FT), grabbed 12 rebounds, picked up 9 steals, and had 6 assists to lead the Pioneers to a 84-65 win in a game that they led from start to finish. The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and had 17 points in the first 3 minutes and never looked back to open up MonDak Conference play. 

Mbagwu got some big help from Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) as Sanz pumped in 23 points (8-16 FG, 2-7 3's, 5-5 FT). Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) added 11 points (3-8 FG, 1-4 3's, 4-9 FT). 

The Pioneers biggest lead of the game was a 23-point bulge midway thru the 4th quarter.

  • The Pioneers shot 30-63 (48%) from the field and 5-22 (23%) from 3-point range. MCC was 19-27 at the free throw line. 
  • The Buccaneers shot 24-62 (39%) from the field and 8-27 (30%) from 3-point range. DCC was 9-14 at the free throw line. 
  • MCC outrebounded Dawson 39-28. MCC had 12 offensive rebounds and DCC had 9.
  • Dawson had 21 turnovers and the Pioneers had 16.

The Pioneers are 1-0 in MonDak Conference play and 9-10 overall. They will travel to Williston State on Monday night for a 4:30 PM MST tipoff against the Tetons.
