Pioneers End Regular Season With Victory at Williston State

Koak Kok (Ulang, South Sudan) domintated the inside by scoring 25 points (11-17 FG, 3-4 FT) and grabbing 11 rebounds leading the Pioneers to a 90-83 victory in Williston, ND on Monday night to end the 2024-25 regular season. 

The Pioneers trailed by 8 points with 12:00 to play in the first half before taking a 42-37 lead to the halftime break in a wild first half that saw Williston shoot just 33% from the field and the Pioneers shoot 43% by have 11 turnovers. MCC heated up a bit in 2nd half by shooting 55% from the field compared to 35% for Williston and built a 12-point lead with 7:00 to play only to see the Tetons cut the lead to 2 points with just over 1:00 to play. Big free throws by Isaiah Beauchamp (Freshman - Toledo, Ohio) and Kok belped the Pioneers stretch that lead as the MCC defense held the Tetons multiple times from scoring in  the last minute. 

Beauchamp added 16 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3's, 4-4 FT) and Azenio Cossa (Freshman - Maputo, Mozambique) also had a double double with 14 points (6-12 FG, 0-2 3's, 2-2 FT), 13 rebounds, and 3 steals. Mack Page added 12 points (2-9 FG, 8-10 FT) and 5 rebounds in the win. Colton Hawkins (Sophomore - Pueblo, CO) added 9 rebounds for the Pioneers. 

Josiah McDonald (Freshman - San Antonio, TX), Ian Johnson (Sophomore - Minot, ND), and Demitric Kindle (Sophomore - Houston, TX) all had 14 points for the Tetons. Freedom Leon (Sophomore - Trinidad) had 10 rebounds and McDonald added 8 for the Tetons.

  • The Pioneers shot 33-68 (49%) from the field and 5-17 from the 3-point line. MCC hit 19-24 at the free throw line. 
  • The Tetons shot 30-89 (34%) from the field and 8-37 from the 3-point line. WSC hit 15-21 from the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Tetons 54-42. MCC had 6 offensive rebounds and WSC had 13.
  • MCC had 23 turnovers on the night and Williston had just 12. 
  • There were 8 ties and 3 lead changes in the game. 

MCC end the regular season with a 6-8 record in the MonDak Conference and 14-16 overall. The Pioneers will travel to Wahpeton, ND for a Region XIII playoff game against NDSCS on Sunday, March 2 at 1:00 PM. Williston concludes the regular season with a 10-4 MonDak Conference record and 22-8 overall.
