Big 2nd Half Pushes Pioneers Past Lake Region

The MCC Pioneers rallied from a 14-point 1st half deficit and outscored Lake Region State 47-34 over the final 20 minutes for a 87-79 MonDak Conference win on Sunday afternoon in Devils Lake, ND. Trailing 45-40 at the half, the Pioneers held Lake Region to just 9-34 field goals in the 2nd half to gain their 1st road conference victory of the season. 

Mack Page (Sophmore - Worland, WY) scored 21 points (7-12 FG, 1-1 3's, 6-9 FT) to lead 4 Pioneers in double figures. Yohandry Ortiz (Freshman - Naples, FL) added 19 points (6-13 FG, 0-3 3's, 7-11 FT) and 5 rebounds while Jace Hill (Freshman - Columbia Falls, MT) sported a double-double with 12 points (3-9 FG, 2-5 3's, 4-4 FT) and 12 rebounds. Azenio Cossa (Freshman - Maputo, Mozambique) added 11 points (4-12 FG, 0-1 3's, 3-5 FT) and 7 rebounds off the bench. The Pioneers had a huge night on the boards from Colton Hawkins (Sophomore - Pueblo, CO) with 18 rebounds. 

The Royals were led by Poet Davis (Freshman - Minneapolis, MN) came off the bench to score 20 points (6-16 FG, 4-11 3's, 4-4 FT) and got another 17 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3's, 5-8 FT) from Alvin Payne (Freshman - Blaine, MN) and Payne also had a team high 8 rebounds. Bronson Chambers (Sophomore - Ontario, Canada) added 14 points (4-15 FG, 0-7 3's, 6-8 FT) and 7 rebounds.
