Pioneers Win Shootout With Lake Region State

The MCC Pioneers won a shootout in the semifinal of the MonDak Conference preseason basketball tournament at 4 Bears Event Center in New Town, ND. MCC got off to a hot start with their transition game and built an early 41-19 lead over the Royals. Lake Region battled back after that tocut the lead to 54-46 at the half. The teams went back and forth in the 2nd half and Lake Region cut the Pioneer lead to 100-98 before MCC hit 4 straight free throws down the stretch to pull out the win and move in to the tournament championship game. 

Yohandre Ortiz (6'5 Freshman - Naples, FL) tallied 36 points (10-17 FG, 3-8 3's, 13-17 FT) to go along with 10 rebounds. Azenio Cossa (6'2 Freshman - Maputo, Mozambique) added 24 points (10-22 FG, 3-9 3's, 1-2 FT) an dished out 5 assists and snagged 4 steals to lead the Pioneers. Mack Page (6'5 Sophomore) sported a double-double with 19 points (8-17 FG, 0-2 3's, 3-5 FT), 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Isaiah Beauchamp (5'7 Freshman - Toledo, OH) added 12 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3's, 5-6 FT).

Poet Davis (5'11 Freshman - Minneapolis, MN) led Lake Region with 27 points (9-22 FG, 4-12 3's, 5-6 FT) to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Ginuwine Tropnas (6'10 Sophomore) had 19 points (8-13 FG, 1-1 3's, 2-2 FT) and 9 rebounds. Akok Ajou (6'6 Freshman - Alberta) had 16 points (8-13 FG, 0-4 3's) and 9 rebounds.
