The MCC Pioneer 7-match winning streak came to a halt on Sunday afternoon as did the season for the Pioneers as the NDSCS Wildcats made the long trip to Miles City and walked out of the Kailey Gymnasium as the Region XIII Champions. NDSCS got off to the hot start and kept the large crowd at the Centra quiet in a 25-16 win. The Pioneers then stormed back and dominated Game 2 taking it by the score of 25-11. It looked like the Pioneers had momentum on their side after tying things up, but the Wildcats had other plans. NDSCS controlled things from the start for a 25-20 Game 3 win and then got off to a hot start in Game 4 leaving no doubt about the outcome with a 25-13 win.
NDSCS will now host the North Plains District Championship next weekend in Wahpeton, ND hosting the Region 11 Champion in a best 2 of 3 series to go to the national tournament.
The Pioneers were led by Angela Youngs (Gillette, WY) with 10 kills and Jacey Rowland (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) with 24 assists. The Havre, MT connection of Cassidy Acor and Sam Oliver had 3 blocks and 30 digs respectively. The Pioneers lose 11 players to graduation and will have a fresh look in the 2022 season.
The Pioneers finished the season 17-12 and played in the programs first Region XIII Championship since starting the program from scratch 5 years ago.
