Pioneers Drop 2 on Day 1 of Big Sky Volleyball Classic

The Miles Community College volleyball team had a tough go of things in day 1 of the Big Sky Volleyball Classic in Butte, MT. The Pioneers dropped 2 matches on Friday to Carroll College and Northwest College. 

Match 1 - Miles 1... Carroll 3 (25-21, 19-25, 18-25, 18-25)

Carroll College avenged a Thursday night loss to the Pioneer volleyball team with a bounce back victory in Butte. The Pioneers got off to a strong start winning game 1 but couldn't pull the upset for the 2nd straight night. The Pioneers were led offensively by freshman Josee Krum (Worden, MT) with 11 kills, Mandi Tvedt (Glenrock, WY) with 17 assists, and Angela Youngs (Gillette, WY) with 3 aces. Defensively for the Pioneers Sam Oliver (Havre, MT)  had 18 digs and fellow Havre grad Cassidy Acor had 3 blocks. 

Match 2 - Miles 0... Northwest College 3 (24-26, 19-25, 19-25)

Region IX powerhouse Northwest College snuck out an intense game 1 by the score of 24-26 and then polished off the Pioneer volleyball team in 3 games to cap off day 1 of the classic in Butte. The Pioneer were led again by Krum (8 kills), Tvedt (11 assists), Oliver (22 digs), Acor (4 blocks), and Youngs with 2 aces. 

The Pioneers will face Rocky Mountain College JV tomorrow at 11 AM and Dickinson State JV at 3:00 PM. MCC is now 1-2 on the young season.
