Casper Races Past Pioneer Women in High Scoring Affair

Casper College knocked down seven first half 3-pointers enroute to a 56-47 lead and then built a 15 point lead after 3 quarters to push past the MCC Pioneers 92-84 on Friday afternoon in Powell, WY. 

The Thunderbirds sent the Pioneers to their 3rd consecutive loss and for the 2nd consecutive game the Pioneers gave up over 90+ points. 

Matilida Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) pumped in 28 poinCasperts (10-20 FG, 4-8 3's, 4-4 FT) and grabbed 6 rebounds to help the Pioneers keep up with Casper's high scoring pace. Pien Draisma (Sophomore - Katwijk, Netherlands came off the bench to score a career high 19 points (5-10 FG, 3-6 3's, 6-11 FT) and grab a team high 9 rebounds. Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) had 16 points (5-13 FG, 2-7 3's, 4-6 FT) and Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) was the 4th Pioneer in double figures with 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-13 FT), 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.

  • The Pioneers shot 28-64 (44%) from the field and 10-28 (36%) from the 3-point line. MCC was 18-36 (50%) from the free throw line. 
  • Casper shot 37-75 (49%) from the field and 11-30 (37%) from the 3-point line. The T-Birds were 7-12 from the free throw line. 
  • Casper outrebounded MCC 39-29. Casper had 13 offensive rebounds and the Pioneers had 8.
  • The Pioneers had 15 turnovers and Casper had 13.
  • Casper had 23 assists on 37 field goals. MCC had only 7 assists. 

The Pioneers are now 8-9 and will play their final non conference game on Saturday afternoon at Northwest College in Powell, WY.
