Pioneers 49... Eastern Wyoming College 67

Basket making was not in the cards for the Pioneer Women on Friday afternoon in Gillette, WY. MCC struggled making baskets from start to finish and the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers avenged a earlier defeat to the Pioneers in Miles City with a 67-49 win. 

Eastern Wyoming College jumped out to a 10-1 lead to start the game as MCC did not make a field goal over the 1st 5 minutes of the contest. Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) then went on a 10-0 run of her own to give the Pioneers a 11-10 lead. MCC led 15-12 at the end of quarter 1 but the Lancers battled back for a 2-point lead at the half after the Pioneers connected on just 9-35 field goals in the half. 

The Lancers stretched the lead in the 2nd half to as many as 25 point midway thru the 4th quarter. 

The Pioneers got 13 points (5-12 FG, 1-6 3's, 2-2 FT) from Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) and 12 points (4-17 FG, 2-3 3's, 2-2 FT) and a team high 8 rebounds from Mbagwu.

• The Pioneers shot just 20-74 (27%) from the field and 4-27 (15%) from the 3-point line. MCC was only 5-6 at the free throw line.

• EWC outrebounded the Pioneers 55-39. EWC had 10 offensive rebounds and MCC had 14.

The Pioneers are now 7-5 on the season and will try to defeat Gillette College for the 2nd time this season on Saturday afternoon in Gillette, WY at 2:00 PM.
