Pioneers Snap 4-Game Skid With Resounding Win Over Dakota College at Bottineau

The MCC Pioneers went on the road and snapped a 4-game losing streak with a hot shooting 102-88 win over Dakota College at Bottineau on Sunday afternoon at "The Woodshed" in Bottineau, ND. 

MCC flipped an early 7-point deficit four minutes in to the game to a 20-point lead with two minutes left in the contest. The Pioneers had a hot shooting night by knocking down 57% of their field goal attempt. 

Azenio Cossa (6'3 Sophomore - Maputo, Mozambique) led 4 players in double figures for the Pioneers with 29 points (12-16 FG, 5-7 3's), 7 assists, and 3 steals. Shad Boyce (6'8 Freshman - Winifred, MT) contributed a double double that included 22 points (8-11 FG, 1-1 3's, 5-6 FT) and 14 rebounds. Uwami Chongo (6'8 Sophomore - Maputo, Mozambique) had 24 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3's, 4-5 FT) and 5 rebounds. Jace Hill (6'1 Sophomore - Columbia Falls, MT) had 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-5 3's), 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. 

The Pioneers shot 60% from the field, 58% from the 3-point line and 89% from the free throw line to build a 53-44 halftime lead. The Lumberjacks cut the Pioneer lead to 4 points before MCC took off again for a 20-point bulge late in the game. 

DCB was led by Elijah Reynolds and Damjan Tapuskovic with 14 points each.

  • The Pioneers shot 39-68 (57%) from the field and 14-28 (50%) from the 3-point line. MCC was 10-12 at the free throw line.

  • MCC outrebounded DCB 38-34. DCB had 14 offensive rebounds and MCC had 7.

The Pioneers move to 5-6 in conference play and 12-17 overall. The regular season finale will be Sunday, February 22 as they host United Tribes Technical College at 3:00 PM in Miles City for Sophomore Day.
