The MCC Pioneers jumped out to a quick 15-0 start and never looked back in a 110-61 romp over the Rocky Mountain College JV in the season opener at the MCC Centra. The Pioneers shot a sizzling 22-38 (58%) in the 1st half and continued the hot shooting in the second half to run away with the victory. Zack Baker (Frenchtown, MT) came off the bench to lead 6 players in double figures with 19 points (7-9 FG, 2-2, 3's, 3-4 FT) and 4 rebounds. Newcomers Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, NV) added 18 points (6-13 FG, 2-4 3's, 4-7 FT) and 4 rebounds and Tvon Jones (Philadelphia, PA) played well off the bench with 14 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 3's, 3-3 FT) and 4 rebounds.
Denzel Kabasele (Lancaster, PA) also provided bench spark with 13 points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3's, 4-6 FT) and 5 rebounds. 2nd year Pioneers Eli Habighorst (Las Vegas, NV) and Kaleb Naylor (Zion, IL) each scored 11 points. Habighorst led the Pioneers with 5 assists and 3 steals while Paul Gakmar (Perth, Australia) led the effort on the boards with 8 rebounds and Blessing Adesipe (Houston, TX) had 7.
The Pioneer defense seemed to be all over the court in the first half holding the Bears to 22% FG and 32% for the game. The Bears had 19 turnovers for the game and were outrebounded by the Pioneers 49-38 on the night.
MCC will start MonDak Conference play on Friday afternoon at 4:15 PM MST against Williston State in the Conference Tipoff Tournament in New Town, ND.
