Pioneers Survive The Woodshed

Ben Datro (6'1 Freshman, Montreal) made the first of two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to break an 86-86 tie and the Dakota College-Bottineau Lumberjacks didn't get a shot attempt off as the Pioneers gained their 10th win of the season with an 87-86 victory at the Woodshed in Bottineau, ND. In a back and forth game that saw 15 ties and 12 lead changes neither team leading by more than 7 points, the Pioneers rebounded a Lumberjack missed FT with 6 seconds remaining as Datro got in to the lane and drew a foul for the game winning foul shot. 

The Pioneers had a balanced scoring effort once again as a trio of Pioneers scored 17 points. Favour Chukwukelu (6'1 Sophomore, Las Vegas), Dylan Hushaw (6'1 Sophomore, Las Vegas), and Jakim Ricketts (6'1 Sophomore, Livingston, MT) all scored 17 in the win. Chukwukelu (5-10 FG, 2-4 3's, 5-6 FT) also added 11 rebounds for the game while Hushaw (6-14, 5-12 3's) and Ricketts (7-17 FG, 3-11 3's, 0-3 FT) each had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Datro came off the bench to score 12 points (4-6 FT, 2-4 3's, 3-4 FT's) to go along with 3 assists. 

Kionne Layne (6'4 Guard) netted 23 points (10-16 FG, 2-3 3's, 1-1 FT) while Eric Palmer (6'4 Forward) scored 22 points (10-15 FG, 2-7 FT) and grabbed 9 rebounds. Marcus Krenn (6'4 Forward) added 17 points (6-10 FG, 3-4 3's, 2-3 FT's) to go along with 7 rebounds. Trayvon Barney (5'9 Guard) dished out 8 assists for the Lumberjacks (4-10, 3-10 MonDak).

The Pioneers (10-6, 9-6 MonDak) return home Wednesday night to face Williston State at 7:30 PM.
