The MCC Pioneers dropped a 1-point loss on Wednesday night and started the game down 0-1 after a technical foul free throw, but then scored first in the live ball game and led from start to finish and defeated the MonDak Conference's 2nd place team NDSCS 86-74 Thursday night at the MCC Centra. The Pioneers used balance scoring and some timely baskets to stave off every rally the Wildcats threw a the them.
Dylan Hushaw (6'1 Guard, Las Vegas) scored 21 points (6-11 FG, 4-7 3's, 5-6 FT), grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 4 assists to spearhead the win. Favour Chukwukely (6'2 Guard, Las Vegas) had 16 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3's, 4-4 FT) while Jakim Ricketts (6'2 Guard, Livingston, MT) and Remy Lemovou (6'8 Sophomore) each had 14 points. Eli Habighorst (6'0 Guard) scored 10 and dished out 5 assists.
Lemovou (6'8 Sophomore) also added 9 rebounds and 6 block shots spearheading a solid 2nd half defensive effort. Ricketts (5-11 FG, 2-4 3's, 2-2 FT) also helped out with 4 rebounds. Habighorst had 10 points (3-9 FG, 0-2 3's, 4-4 FT ) and 5 assists.
NDSCS (10-4 MonDak Conference) was led by Ty Horner (6'10 Sophomore) with 25 points (11-23 FG, 3-10 3's, 0-2 FT) and 5 rebounds. Khari Broadway (6'3 Guard) scored 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 FT) and JaQuan Saunders-Smith (6'0 Guard) had 12 points (5-11 FG, 1-1 3's, 1-1 FT)
The Pioneers (8-6 MonDak, 9-6 overall) were outrebounded 46-39 on the night but used a 58% shooting effort in the 2nd half to secure th win. They held the Wildcats to only 32-80 FG (40%) and 6-24 3's (25%). MCC will hit the road Sunday afternoon in Bottineau, ND for a matchup with Dakota College at 2:00 PM MST.
