The Pioneers faced the Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain College JV on Saturday afternoon in the Kailey Gymnasium. After facing and beating the Bears earlier in the season, the Pioneers knew what to expect. However, RMCJV wouldn't go away quietly for the Pioneers. The first half of play was tight, with the lead changing hands five times. The Pioneers took the lead into the half 41-37 and they wouldn't relinquish the lead again. The Pioneers stayed strong in the second half and didn't allow RMCJV to get into any sort of a rhythm. MCC scored 17 points off of 14 turnovers in the game and shot 38.7% as a team. The final score saw the Pioneers get the victory, 82-74.
Issac Abergut led the team in scoring with 18, followed by Gedeon Buzangu with 14, Akeemis Williams with 12 and Evan Harrell with 12. Buzangu had a double-double for the second game in a row, leading the team in rebounds with 14. Joey Lodine grabbed 12 boards. Deondre Northey and Williams each had four assists to lead the team.
The Pioneers will take a break for the holidays and return to action January 4 at home against Gillette College at 7:30pm.
