North Idaho Defense Shuts Down Pioneer Women

The North Idaho Cardinals defense held the MCC Pioneers to just two 3-point field goals in the first quarter enroute to a 23-8 lead after that quarter and then continued to keep the pressure on in an 84-39 win over MCC on Saturday afternoon in Coeur d' Alene, ID. 

The Pioneers scored only 12 field goals in the game and committed 30 turnovers against a tough NIC defense. Summer Faleafa led NIC with 17 points (7-14 FG, 3-8 3's) and Esmeralda Galindo added 16 points (5-11 FG, 0-3 3's, 6-6 FT). 

The Pioneers were led off the bench by Jessica Makayabo (Sophomore - Eastlake, TX) with 13 points (4-9 FG, 0-2 3's, 5-6 FT). Isabella Gurie (Sophomore - Columbus, MT) led the PIoneers with 5 rebounds.

  • The Pioneers shot just 12-41 (29%) from the field and 4-15 from the 3-point line. MCC was 11-16 at the free throw line. 
  • The Cardinals shot 31-67 (46%) from the field and 5-28 (18%) from the 3-point line. NIC was 17-21 at the free throw line. 
  • NIC outrebounded the Pioneers 35-31. MCC had 4 offensive rebounds and NIC had 10.
  • The Pioneers turned the ball over 30 times compared to 12 for NIC. NIC had 23 steals. 

MCC fell to 2-8 on the season and travel to Spokane on Sunday for a 12:00 PM MST game against Spokane Community College.
