Pioneers Use Long Ball and Strong Pitching to Dispatch Lake Region

Game 1 - Pioneers 12... Lake Region State 1 

Chance Descalchuk (DH - Regina, Saskatchewan) and Dane Gilbert (1B - Monument, CO) connected on home runs and the middle of the MCC Pioneer batting order went 6-9 with 7 RBI and the Pioneers dominated Lake Region State 12-1 in game 1 on Sunday. 

The Pioneers started their scoring in the top of the 2nd inning by scoring on a passed ball and a bases loaded walk. They added 2 more runs in the 3rd inning with a pair of solo home runs from Descalchuk and Gilbert. 

Lake Region got their lone run in the bottom of the 3rd with a solo home run. MCC got 4 runs in the 4th inning starting with a RBI double from Chase Carnahan (2B - Fallon, NV) after a Chaise Tracy (3B - Billings, MT) walk. Liam Sullivan (CF - Great Falls, MT) was hit by a pitch and Descalchuk followed that with a RBI single. Ethan Forrest (LF - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) singled to drive in Sullivan and Descalchuk scored when the following batter grounded in to a double play. 

MCC scored a run in the 6th inning on a LRSC error and then added 3 runs in the 7th inning on a double play ball and then 2 hit batsmen with the bases loaded. 

Ethan Forrest was 3-3 (2 BB, 2 RBI, R) and Descalchuk was 2-4 (HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB0. Tracy was 2-2 (2 BB, 2 R, 2B). 

AJ Truman got the start on the mound and pitched 6 innings (3 H, R, ER, 5 BB, SO). Owen Lucas (Assiniboine, Saskatchewan) pitched the final inning (H, 2 SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 10 hits (2 HR, 2 2B) and the Royals had 4 hits (HR). 
  • Each team committed 1 error. 
  • MCC had 7 stolen bases and LRSC had 2.
  • Pioneer batters struck out 10 times, walked 10 times, and were hit by pitch 4 times. 
  • Royal batters struck out 3 times and walked 5 times. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Lake Region State 2 (14 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers hit 7 home runs and Tanner Hager (Casper, WY) tossed a 5-inning 1-hitter as the Pioneers completed a 4-game sweep of the Royals. Dane Gilbert connected for 3 home runs and Chance Descalchuk had 2 as the long balls were flying out of Connors Stadium at a rapid rate. 

Ethan Forrest had a RBI single in the top of the 1st inning. The Royals got their only hit and runs of the game on a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st. 

Anthony Williams (C -  led the 2nd inning off with a solo home run and MCC used that momentum to continue the onlslaught of the Royals. Chase Carnahad had a RBI single to make the score 3-2. 

Descalchuck led the 3rd inning off with a solo home run and with one out, Gilbert smacked a home run to make the score 5-2. Luke Thorne (SS - Missoula, MT) made it 3 home runs in the inning with another solo shot. 

Raymond Shawver (RF - Miles City, MT) led the 4th inning off with a single and moved to 2nd on an error. Shawver moved to 3rd on the Pioneers 1st out of the inning and scored on a RBI single from Liam Sullivan (CF - Great Falls, MT) Descalchuk then stretched a RBI single in to an error filled home run. Forrest followed that with a single and Gilbert got his 2nd home run of the day to drive in 2 and make the score 11-2. 

In the 5th inning, Sullivan singled and Descalchuk smashed an inside the park home run that got to the deep centerfield fence. For the 3rd time on Sunday, Gilbert followed a Descalchuk home run with one of his own. 

The middle of the Pioneer lineup want 8-12 in this game and had 9 RBI and 7 runs scored. Sullivan had 2 hits (RBI, 3 R) and Descalchuk had 3 (4 RBI, 3 R, 2 HR). Gilbert had 3 hits (3 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R) while Forrest, Williams, and Thorne each had 2. 

Tanner Hagar pitched 5 innings (H, 4 SO) giving up only one hit to pick up the win.

  • The Pioneers had 16 hits (7 HR, 2B) and the Royals had 1 hit (HR).
  • MCC had 1 error and LRSC had 2.
  • MCC had 2 stolen bases. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out twice and walked twice. 
  • Royal batters struck out 4 times and didn't draw a walk. 

The Pioneers improve to 10-2 in MonDak Conference play and 24-15 overall. Next up is a weekend series vs. Williston State. Saturday's games is in Williston and Sunday's games are in Miles City with 1st pitch coming at 1:00 PM local time.
