Pioneers Split Home Games With Dawson

Game 1 - Pioneers 5... Dawson 15 (6 Innings)

Seven days after the Pioneers defeated Dawson 23 -3 in Glendive and swept the 2- game series, Dawson returned the favor by coming to Miles City and defeating the Pioneers 15-5 on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Pioneer bats were held silent as the Pioneers were only able to muster up 4 hits in the game after pounding out 19 hits and scoring 23 runs a week ago. 

Dawson got on the board right away with 3 runs in the top of the 1st and then 2 more in the 2nd inning. The Pioneers were able to get 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and another in the 3rd to cut the lead to 5-3. Dawson took off from there and plated 3 runs in the 5th and then tacked on 7 runs in the 6th inning. 

MCC was only able to get one more run in each of the 5th and 6th inning. Luke Wilson (RF - Calgary, Alberta) was 2-2 at the plate with a double and a RBI. Brandon Hegadus (Littleton, CO) hit a solo home run for the Pioneers and Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) had the other RBI for MCC. 

Lee Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) got the pitching start for MCC and delivered 4.2 innings (8 R, 5 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 SO). Chase Goode (Castle Rock, CO) pitched 0.2 innings (5 R, 4 H, BB, 2 SO) and AJ Truman (Eureka, MT) did not record an out (H, 2 R, BB). Keenan Kraft (Belgrade, MT) pitched the final 0.2 innings (H, SO). 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 4 hits (HR, 2B) and Dawson had 11 hits (3B, 2 2B).
  • MCC had 3 errors and Dawson had 2. 
  • Dawson batters struck out 8 times, walked 5 times and were hit by pitch 3 times. 
  • Miles batters struck out 4 times, walked 3 times, and were hit by pitch twice.

Game 2 - Pioneers 6... Dawson 5

The Pioneers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and then needed 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to rally from a 5-3 deficit to scratch out game 2 and avoid a Wednesday sweep in Miles City. 

Dawson scored 1st with a run in the top of the 1st. MCC got 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st as leadoff hitter Luke Thorne (SS - Missoula, MT) singled and Lance Bratlien (CF - Helena, MT) was hit by a pitch. Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) drive in Thorne with a single and put runners on the corners. Luke Wilson hit a sacrifice fly RBI and Bryson Herion (DH - Kalispell, MT) drove in Parry with a RBI single. Dawson tied the Pioneers 3-3 with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd and then took the lead with 2 runs in the 4th inning. 

In the game winning 6th inning, Herion connected for a one out solo home run to make the score 5-4. Ethan Forrest (2B - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) followed that with a single and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Then, with 2 outs, Tyler Hutton (LF - Sheridan, WY) singled to drive in Forrest and tie the score at 5-5. Thorned singled and Bratlien doubled to drive in the go ahead run. 

Thorne, Parry, and Herion each had 2 hits for the Pioneers. 

Max Holden (Kalispell, MT) got the start on the mound and pitched 3.2 innings (5 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 SO) and haded the ball to Trae Awbery (Miles City, MT) for the next 2.1 innings (BB, 4 SO) to get the win. Ostyn Brennan (Kalispell, MT) pitched the final inning (2 SO) for the save.

The Pioneers are now 15-5 in MonDak Conference play and 32-14 overall. Next up for MCC is a weekend series with Bismarck State on April 26 (Miles City, MT) and April 27 (Bismarck, ND).
