Game 1 - Pioneers 1 ... Iowa Central 8
The wind in Fort Dodge, Iowa was substantially blowing and had an adverse affect on the Pioneer baseball team on Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers could not muster up much offense and the home team Iowa Central did enough at the plate to grind out a 8-1 win over the Pioneers in the 1st game of a 4-game series.
The Pioneers got on the board in the first inning after Tanner Goertz (LF - Highlands Ranch, CO) was hit by a pitch and Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) collected the 1st of only 2 Pioneer hits with a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Goertz scored on a sacrifice fly from Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT).
Iowa Central tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st and then took command of the contest with 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 more in the 3rd inning. The Tritons picked up their final run of the game in the bottom of the 5th.
The only other Pioneer hit was a single by Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) but Bickett was quickly caught stealing 2nd and MCC would not have any offense after that.
Chase Goode (Castle Rock, CO) got the start for MCC and pitched 2.2 innings (4 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 SO) and was relieved by Lee Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) for the next 3.1 innings (2 H, R, BB, 4 SO)
