Pioneer Bats Start 2025 Season Blazing Hot

Game 1 - Pioneers 18... Western Nebraska 11

The MCC Pioneer bats got the 2025 season off on the right foot by blasting 7 home runs with the wind blowing out in Scottsbluff, NE as the Pioneers notched a 18-11 win to start the season. Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) collected 4 hits in 5 at bats in the win. Bickett hit a solo home run in the 6th inning and also had 3 singles. 

Western Nebraska scored 3 runs in the 1st but the Pioneers tied it with 3 runs in the 2nd inning on the strength of a home run by Davis Mosier (3B - Billings, MT). MCC took over in the 3rd inning by scoring 5 runs led by a 3-run homer by Luke Wilson (DH - Calgary, Alberta). MCC took a 8-6 led to the 4th inning and added a run in the 4th followed by 4 more runs in the 5th inning thanks to home runs by Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) and Tanner Goertz (LF - Highlands Ranch, CO). 

MCC followed the 4 run 5th inning with 4 more in the 6th inning. Bickett's home run was followed by a home run from freshman Luke Thorne (2B - Missoula, MT). The final run of the game for MCC came in the 7th inning on another home run from Davis Mosier.

Max Holden (Kalispell, MT) got the start for MCC and pitched 4 innings (3 H, 6 R, 7 BB, 5 SO) and he was replaced by Evan Woods (Casper, WY) for 1.2 innings (6 H, 5 R, BB) and the Brandon Hegedus (Littleton, CO) for the final 1.1 innings for perfect pitching (SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers ripped 14 hits (7 Home Runs) and had 6 walks.
  • Western Nebraska had 9 hits (1 Home Run) and had 8 walks.

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Western Nebraska 7

The Pioneers picked up where they left off in game 1 by hitting 4 more home runs including 2 by Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) and Bratlien also doubled driving in 3 runs in the game as the Pioneers swept Sunday in Scottsbluff, NE.

After trailing 4-1 after one inning of play, MCC scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 more in the 4th for a 9-4 lead. Western Nebraska scratched in the the lead with 3 runs in the 4th inning to cut the lead to 9-7 but the Pioneers put the game on ice with a run in the 6th inning and 4 more in the 7th. 

The 5 runs in the 3rd inning were scored on 4 hits led by a triple from Max Johnson (DH - West Haven, UT). The 4th inning scoring spree was led by a single from Goertz and Bratlien's 2nd home run of the contest (2 RBI). The 4 runs in the 7th inning were highlighted by another home run from Coleman Parry with a 2-run blast. 

Mayson Shively (Three Forks, MT) got the start for MCC and pitched 3.2 innings (8 H, 7 R, BB, 7 SO). Sam Hall (Eureka, MT) took over from there with 1.1 innings (2 H, 2 SO). Brady Bickett moved in from centerfield to pitch a perfect 6th inning and Lance Bratlien came in from rightfield to strike out the side in the 7th (BB).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers connected for 14 hits and 4 home runs. The Cougars had 10 hits and 3 home runs. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 10 times and WNCC batters struck out 14 times. 
  • MCC pitchers walked only 2 batters and WNCC pitchers walked 6 batters. 
  • MCC had 1 stolen base and WNCC had 2.
  • Miles had the only 2 errors of the game.
