Pioneers Grind Out Two Wins Over Dawson

Pioneers Grind Out Two Wins Over Dawson

Game 1 - Pioneers 16... Dawson 12

The MCC Pioneers took advantage of 15 free passes to 1st base (9 walks, 6 hit batters) and rallied from a 10-5 deficit for a 16-12 MonDak Conference victory in game 1 on Tuesday in Miles City.

MCC had only 6 hits in the game with the big blow being a SS Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) grand slam home run in the 3rd inning that cut the Dawson lead from 10-5 to 10-9. That gave the Pioneers the momentum they would need to pull off the victory.

The Pioneers scored 2 runs in the 1st and 3 more in the 2nd inning all without getting a hit. It wasn't until Jordahl's home run that the Pioneers had a hit in the game. MCC tacked on 2 more runs in the 3rd to take a 11-10 lead and then DH Tommy O'Connell (Kalispell, MT) went deep in the 4th inning for a 12-10 lead. The Pioneers got 3 more runs in the inning thanks to Dawson blunders (walks, hit batsman, errors) to build a 15-10 lead.

Dawson sandwiched a Pioneer run in the 6th inning with a run in the 5th and 7th innings.

O'Connell was the only Pioneer with multiple hits going 2-3 (HR, 2B, RBI, 2 R). Jordahl had 4 RBI's, LF Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) had 3, and C Takumi Kimoto had 2. CF Kruz Slevira had 3 RBI without getting a hit.

Cameron Murphy (Torrington, WY) got the start for the Pioneers going 3 innings (10 R, 10 H, 2 SO) before giving way to Josh Banderob (Great Falls, MT) for the next 2 innings (R, H, 3 BB, SO). Jacob Walker (Brisbane, Australia) closed the final 2 innings (3 H, R, SO).
