Pioneers Win Impromptu Game Against Lake Region

Pioneers Win Impromptu Game Against Lake Region

Pioneers 12... Lake Region State 1 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers played an impromptu game Monday afternoon against Lake Region State College. Lake Region was scheduled to play North Dakota State College of Science but forfeited the game claiming that they didn't have enough pitchers left. Because Lake Region was already here and wanted another game, the Pioneers made a quick trip to the park to get another game in.

The Pioneers took advantage of 8 walks and some timely hitting for a 12-1 win in 5 innings. The Pioneers scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 4 in the 3rd, 4 more in the 4th and then added another in the 5th to take the win. Lake Region's only run came in the 2nd inning.

CF Brady Jones (Manhattan, MT) was hit by a pitch with one out and DH Tyler Tenney (Helena, MT) walked. 3B Kam Kostial (Rexburg, ID) then hit a triple to right center field to open the scoring. 2B Jessen West (Billings, MT) singled home Kostial for a 3-0 Pioneer bulge.

In the 3rd inning Kostial walked with one out and 1B Spencer Searcey (Denver, CO) was hit by a pitch. SS Dyson Kinnaman (Belgrade, MT) singled to left field and both runners scored. C Brian Roselles (Rapid City, SD) walked after Kinnaman stole 2nd and 3rd base. RF Noah Auftengarden (Billings, MT) walked to load the bases and LF Matt Burton (Helena, MT) walked to make the score 6-1. The Pioneers final run of the inning came on a Royal wild pitch.

Kostial singled with one out and Spencer Searcey walked. After both baserunners stole the next base, Kinnaman singled driving in Kostial and Searcey. Roselles then doubled putting runners on 2nd and 3rd, Auftengarden walked, and Burton singled driving in 2 runs to make the score 11-1.

The Pioneers final run came in the 5th inning when Kostial singled and Searcey was hit by a pitch. Dalton Martin (Gillette, WY) came in to run for Kostial and scored on a Jessen West single.

Mason Peters (Columbia Falls, MT) pitched 3 innings (4 H, R, BB, 4 SO) and gave way to Hayden Meehan (Columbia Falls, MT) for the final 2 innings. Meehan threw a perfect 2 innings with a strikeout.

Kostial was 3-3 (3B, 3 R, 2 RBI) to lead the way for the Pioneers. Jessen West was 2-4 (2 RBI) and Dyson Kinnaman was 2-3 (4 RBI, 2 R, BB) and Burton had 3 RBI.

MCC will host Dawson CC tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader at 12:00 and 3:00 PM.
