Pioneers Split a Pair of One Run Games With Minnesota West Community & Technical College

Game 1 - Pioneers 7... Minnesota West Technical & Community College 6

The MCC Pioneers rallied from a 6-1 3rd inning deficit by scoring 3 in the bottom of the 3rd, 2 more in the 4th, and added the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th. Pinch runner Brady Jones (Manhattan, MT) scored on on a balk after 1B Kam Kostial (Rexburg, ID) tripled on a shot to center field. 

Trailing 3-0 in the 2nd inning, RF Wyatt Searcey (Denver, CO) doubled and reached 3rd on a sacrifice by SS Jessen West (Billings, MT) and scored on a wild pitch. Minnesota West tallied 3 more runs in the top of the 3rd before the Pioneers scored 3 of their own in the bottom of the 3rd. Walks by LF Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) and 2B Dalton Martin (Gillette, WY) led to a bunt by CF Kruz Levira and he reached on an error to load the bases. Kostial was then hit by a pitch to score Gabbert and keep the bases loaded. Wyatt Searcey grouned in to a fielders choice for 1st out but Martin scored on the play. Jessen West then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Slevira and moved Searcey to 3rd and the Pioneers trailed 6-4.

MCC tied the game in the 4th inning with a C Michael Ohlin (Billings, MT) single (courtesy runner - Matt Burton (Helena, MT)) and another single by Gabbert. Dalton Martin then bunted himself to 1st base to load up the bases. Burton scored on a sacrifice fly by Slevira to make the score 6-5. Kostial was then hit by a pitch to load the bases again and Wyatt Searcey was then hit by a pitch to score Gabbert and tie the game 6-6. 

Jack Corriveau (Kalispell, MT) got the start on the mound and pitched 5 innings (8 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 3 SO). Jacob Walker (Brisbane, Australia) and Cameron Murphy (Torrington, WY) closed the door on Minnesota West by each throwing a perfect inning. Walker struck out one and Murphy struck out 2. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 7 hits and the Bluejays had 8. No Pioneer had multiple hits in the game. Wyatt Searcey had a double and Kam Kostial had a triple. 
  • MCC did not commit an error in the game and MWTC had 2.
  • The Pioneers struck out 7 times and the Bluejays 6. Each team's pitching staff walked 3 batters.

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 6 ... Minnesota West Technical & Community College 7

Minnesota West struck first by notching 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Pioneers quickly rallied with 2 of their own in the top of the 2nd. Wyatt Searcey started things off with a single and a stolen base and then with one out, Jessen West plated Searcey with an RBI double to left field. Dalton Martin then singled and was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch it to a double. West moved to 3rd and scored on a DH Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) double to centerfield. 

Miles CC plated 3 runs in the 3rd inning after two outs as Kam Kostial was hit by a pitch, Wyatt Searcey walked, and 3B Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT) blasted a 3-run shot to left field to give the Pioneers the lead 5-4. In 4th inning, Jordahl reached on an error, stole 2nd, and scored on a Takumi Kimoto (Brisbane, Australia) single. 

Minnesota West cut the lead to 6-5 with a run in the bottom of the 5th and then took the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the 6th.  The Pioneers got the leadoff runner on in the 7th when Takumi Kimoto singled but could not get the score tied to extend the game. Kimoto was the only Pioneer with multiple hits in the game. 

Michael Ohlin got the start on the mound and pitched 3 complete innings (8 H, 4 R, SO). Patrick Dietz (Manhattan, MT) filled in and tossed a perfect inning (2 SO) before giving the ball to Josh Banderob. Banderob pitched two innings (5 H, 3 R, 2 SO).

The Pioneers are now 6-5 on the season and play Malone University and Bethany Lutheran JV Wednesday at 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
