Regular Season Ends With Pioneers Easing By DCB Lumberjacks

Game 1 - Pioneers 14... Lumberjacks 4

The MCC Pioneers were stuck in a tight game leading 3-2 going to the top of the 5th on Sunday afternoon. Things took a turn for the better as the Pioneers erupted for 8 runs in the 5th inning and then 3 more in the 7th to cruise to a 14-4 win in game 1 of doubleheader. 

3 Pioneers had a multiple hit game for MCC. CF Jake Lacey was 2-4 (2-4, 3 RBI, 1 R), SS Ryota Kusumoto (Cairns, Australia) was 2-4 (3B, 2 RBI, R), and IF Tyler Tenney (Helena, MT) was 2-3 (3 RBI, 2 R) to lead the way for the Pioneers. C Takumi Kimoto (Brisbane, Aus), RF Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD), and Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) had the other hits for MCC. 

The Pioneers stole 7 bases in the game as well. Jack Corriveau (Kalispell, MT) had 3, Lacey (2), Jaeden Jordahl (1), and Holyk (1) for MCC. 

Jay Neugebauer (Rapid City, MT) got the win on the mound going 4.2 innings (4 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 4 SO). He was replaced by Josh Banderob (Great Falls, MT) for the final 2.1 innings and Banderob had a solid game of 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Lumberjacks 0

Jeremy Gee (Brigham City, UT) and Patrick Dietz (Manhattan, MT) combined on a 3-hitter and the Pioneers pounded out 16 hits to end the regular season with a 14-0 win over the DCB Lumberjacks. Gee pitched 3 innings (3 H, 3 SO) and Dietz pitched the final 4 innings (0 H, 1 BB,  8 SO).

The 16 hit barrage was led by SS Ryota Kusumoto going 3-3 (3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB) and CF Jake Lacey's 3-4 effort (RBI, SB, 3 R). 1B Tim Holyk was 2-5 (2 2B, 2 RBI, R), RF Ian Krump added a 2-3 showing at the plate (2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Clay Prell (Miles City, MT) was 2-4 (2B, 2 RBI).

DH Tommy O'Connell (Kalispell, MT) hit a 2-run home run and Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) added a solo shot of his own in the win. Takumi Kimoto and Mason Flanary had the other hits for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers finish the regular season 28-18 overall and 12-8 in conference play. They will host the MonDak Conference playoff Friday thru Sunday at Connor's Stadium in Miles City. The Pioneers will open the tournament on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM against the Lake Region State College Royals.
