Game 1 - Pioneers 11... NDSCS 0 (5 Innings)
Pitching was the name of the game on Sunday for the Pioneers with 2 dominating performances to complete the weekend sweep of the NDSCS Wildcats. The Pioneer offense pushed across 7 runs in the 3rd inning to ice the game and leave the rest to the guys on the mound.
Caeden Riley (Torrington, WY) got the start on the mound and pitched 4 innings of shutout ball. Riley gave up only 3 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 6 in the process before giving way to Jay Neugebauer for the final inning. Neugebauer struck out one in a perfect inning.
At the place, the Pioneers scored a run in the bottom of the 1st. SS Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) walked to lead off the game and scored on an RBI single by RF Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD).
The Pioneers 7-run 3rd inning started with a Jaeden Jordahl walk. 3B Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT) bunted and reached on an error that moved Jordahl to 3rd. DH Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) walked to load up the bases. Ian Krump then walked to score Jordahl for a 2-0 lead. Neill scored on a passed ball and 2B Tyler Tenney (Helena, MT) walked to load the bases again with the score 3-0. 1B Kaleb Breeze (West Valley City, UT) then reached on an error by 3B for the Wildcats that scored Holyk and Krump. C Karter Yancey (St. Anthony, ID) drew another walk to load the bases again. LF Brady Jones (Manhattan, MT) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tenney and the Pioneers led 6-0. Jordahl singled to load the bases before Lane Neill singled in 2 more runs for an 8-0 Pioneer lead.
The game ended in the bottom of the 5th when Tommy O'Connell (Kalispell, MT) walked and Yancey singled. Brady Jones then blasted a home run to end the game with the Pioneers leading 11-0 in the 5th.
Game 2 - Pioneers 10... NDSCS 0 (5 Innings)
Cy Miller (Helena, MT) went to the hill and pulled off a 5-inning no-hitter in which he fanned 12 Wildcats and walked only 1. The strong pitching performance was bolstered by a 4-run 2nd inning and a 6-run 5th inning for the Pioneers.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Kam Kostial (Rexburg, ID) walked and reached 2nd when Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) reached on an error. 2B Dalton Martin (Gillette, WY) singled on a bunt that loaded the bases. Takumi Kimoto (Brisbane, Australia) the cleared the bases with a double to leftfield and a 3-0 lead. Matt Burton came in to run for Kimoto and scored on a Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) single and the Pioneers led 4-0.
In the game ending 5th inning, Tim Holyk walked. Ryota Kusumoto (Australia) singled and advanced to 2nd on an error while Holyk moved to 3rd. Kam Kostial then hit an RBI single that scored Holyk and moved Kusumoto to 3rd. Gabbert followed that with an RBI single. Dalton Martin walked to load the bases. Clay Prell (Miles City, MT) then hit a hard ground ball that was booted by the Wildcat 2B. Kostial and Gabbert scored to make the score 8-0 and Martin moved to 3rd. Martin then scored on a wild pitch and Jordahl walked. The game ended on a Jake Lacey single that scored the game winning run.
Lacey and Gabbert were the Pioneers with multiple hits and Kimoto had 3 RBI's and the combination of Prell and Lacey each had 2.
The Pioneers are 20-14 overall and 4-4 in MonDak Conference play. They are scheduled to play Dawson CC at home on Wednesday starting at 1:00 PM.
