Bismarck State Baseball Sweeps Pioneers in Miles City

Game 1 - Pioneers 6... Bismarck State 7

Sunday's 2-game set that was moved from Bismarck to Miles City due to weather, the BSC Mystics did the unthinkable as the Mystics rolled in to Miles City and took all 4 games of the series against the homestanding MCC Pioneers. 

Bismarck State was feeling good about themselves after taking 2 on Saturday in Miles City but fell behind 3-0 early before rallying in the 7th for the victory. After dropping 2 games on Saturday, the Pioneers struck 1st in the 1st inning when SS Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) singled to center. CF Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) singled to move Jordahl to 3rd. Lacey was caught stealing as 3B Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) grounded out to SS to score Jordahl and a 1-0 Pioneer lead. RF Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) walked and DH Clay Prell (Miles City, MT) singled to score Krump as the Pioneers led 2-0. 

In the 3rd inning, Jordahl was hit by a pitch and quickly stole 2nd. Lacey flew out to center but moved Jordahl to 3rd. Holyk smacked an RBI single to left that scored Jordahl giving the Pioneers their biggest lead of the weekend at 3-0. 

The Pioneers held the Mystics scoreless until the 5th when BSC tallied a 5-spot to take a 5-3 lead. The Mystics added another in the 6th for a 6-3 lead. In the top of the 7th inning, MCC musted up 3 runs to tie the score at 6-6 before succoming to the Mystics in the bottom of the 7th. The 7th kicked off with a Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT) single to center. Mason Flanary came in to run for Neill. Gabbert singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Jordahl was hit by a pitch and Lacey popped up to CF and Flanary scored. Tim Holyk walked to load the bases. With 2 outs, Clay Prell singled to score 2 runs and tie the score going to the bottom of the 7th. BSC had a walk off single in the 7th to win it. 

Bridger Erickson (St. Anthony, ID) took to the hill in game 2. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 2. Cy Miller (Helena, MT) finished the final 1.1 inning and gave up a run on 4 hits. He walked one and struck out 2. 

 Game 2 - Pioneers 5... Bismarck State 8

The Pioneers scored in all but the 2nd and 5th innings but could not avoid the sweep as the BSC Mystics tallied 3 in the 5th to complete the 4-game sweep of the defending MonDak Conference champion Pioneers. 

CF Jake Lacey hit a solo shot in the 1st inning for a 1-0 Pioneer lead. BSC tallied 3 in the bottom of the 1st for a 3-1 lead. SS Jaeden Jordahl homered in the 3rd to cut the lead to 3-2. The Pioneers tied it in the 4th when Ian Krump singled and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. With 2 outs, Ryota Kusumoto doubled in Krump to tie the score at 3-3. 

BSC took a 4-3 lead with a homer in the bottom of the 4th. BSC added 3 in the bottom of the 5th and a 7-3 lead. MCC added a run in the top of the 6th when Clay Prell doubled and was moved to 3rd on a ground out by Neill. Kusumoto walked and Prell scored on a passed ball to make it 7-4. BSC tallied an insurance run in the 6th to make it 8-4. The Pioneers got a run in the 7th but it would not be enough as the Pioneers were swept at home for the 1st time in recent memory. 

Caeden Riley (Torrington, WY) gave up 6 runs on 6 hits over 4.2 innings. He walked 5 and struck out 3. Noah Ahliff walked 2 over 0.1 innings and gave up a run. Jay Neugebauer finished the final inning and walked 2, struck out 1, and gave up a run on a hit. 

The Pioneers travel to NDSCS next weekend for 4 games.
