Pioneers Take 2 From Dawson to Take Over 1st Place

Game 1 - Pioneers 3... Dawson 2

A walk-off home run by Pioneer 1B Dawson Parry propelled the Miles Community College Pioneers to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Dawson Community College. 

The game turned in to a pitchers duel that was eventually won by Pioneer starter Anthony Bleggi. Bleggi pitched a complete game 4-hitter and struck out 7 in the process. He allowed only 1 walk in 7 innings of work.

The Pioneers mustered up only 4 hits in the game, scoring in the first inning on a bases loaded walk by CF Jake Lacey and also scored on a wild pitch in the 5th inning. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 15... Dawson 8

A big 1st inning and a huge 5th inning led the Pioneers to a doubleheader sweep of Dawson and sole possession of 1st place in the MonDak Conference. After Dawson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, 2B Cade Stuff singled in Brenden Howard and LF Jake hit a grand slam home run to give the Pioneers a 5-1 lead after an inning. 

Dawson battled back to tie the game at 7 in the top of the 5th before the Pioneers erupted for 8 runs to take command of the game. 3B Tim Holyk got things started with a walk and RF Lewis Johnson tripled to score Holyk to give the Pioneers an 8-7 lead. Jake Lacey walked and LF Ian Krump tripled in Johnson and Lacey for a 3-run lead. DH Clay Prell singled to bring in Krump and then SS Brayden Howard had a 2-run single to put the Pioneers up 13-7. MCC tallied 2 more runs to take control of the game. 

Jett Hasegawa returned to the mound after missing the past couple of starts with a shoulder injury and pitched 6 innings giving up 8 runs on 14 hits while striking out 5 before giving way to Cameron Murphy in the 7th. Murphy struck out 2 and gave up a hit in the last inning. 

The 14th ranked Pioneers are now 34-11 on the season and 16-2 in MonDak Conference play. They will head to Lake Region State this weekend for 4 games.
