Game 1 - Pioneers 15... Western Nebraska 8
It took a few inning for the Pioneer bats to heat up, but when they did it turned in to a long afternoon for the Region IX Western Nebraska Cougars. The Pioneers scored 15 runs over the final 6 innings in the 9-inning affair Tuesday afternoon in Scottsbluff, NE. Hunter Lasko (Salt Lake City, UT) went 3-5 at the plate with 2 doubles and had 3 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead the charge for the Pioneers. Lewis Johnson (Evans Head, Australia) hit a 2-run homer and Grayson Skinner (Rapid City, SD) hit a solo shot. Cade Stuff (Great Falls, MT) was 2-5 with 3 RBI and Dawson Parry (American Fork, UT) went 2-4 with 2 RBI. The Pioneers had 13 hits in the game and also had 10 walks.
Anthony Bleggi (Driggs, ID) got the start and went 4 innings giving up 6 runs on 5 hits. He walked 5 Cougars and struck out 6. Dylan Rydalch (Rexburg, ID) finished the final 5 innings allowing only 2 runs on 3 hits. Rydalch struck out 8 Cougars as the Pioneer pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
Game 2 - Pioneers 14 ... Western Nebraska 0
Game 2 was much of the same as MCC had the hot bats, took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, and cruised to a 14-0 win in 5 innings. The Pioneers belted out 16 hits and held the Cougars to only 3 to win in dominating fashion. Hunter Lasko started things off with a 3-run bomb in the top of the 1st. He was 2-2 on the day driving in 3 runs and scoring 3 times. Dawson Parry was 4-4 on the day with 3 RBI and also scored twice. Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) was 2-3 with 3 RBI that included a double. Lewis Johnson was 2-4 with a double and Cade Stuff doubled and scored twice.
Jett Hasegawa was dominant on the mound going a complete game 5-innings allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 3.
The two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00. The Pioneers are now 13-6 on the season.
