Pioneer Bats Cooking in Doubleheader Sweep of Western Nebraska

The Miles Community College bats were cooking on Monday afternoon in Scottsbluff, Nebraska as the Pioneers scored 24 runs on 24 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Region IX Western Nebraska. 

Game 1... Pioneers 13, Western Nebraska 11

The Pioneers built a 10-5 lead after 3 innings in Scottbluff but the Cougars scored 4 in the bottom of the 9th and then loaded the bases with 2 outs before Jay Neugebauer struck out the final Cougar batter. Dawson Parry (American Fork, UT) was the big bat on the day as he went 3-4 (HR) at the plate with 7 RBI. Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) went 3-3 on the day including a homerun and he also scored 4 times. Stockton Brems (American Fork, UT) also went deep and had 2 RBI. 

MCC survived a 7th inning scare as the Cougars rallied from a 13-7 deficit to cut it to 13-11 when Jay Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) came in and walked his first batter to load the bases but then struck out the next batter after falling behind 3-0 to end the game. 

 

Game 2... Pioneers 11, Western Nebraska 1

An 8-run 4th inning onslaught powered the Pioneers to an 11-1 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Cougars. The balanced Pioneer attack saw hits and RBI's come all the thru the lineup as each starter had a hit and multiple players had 2 RBI each. Brayden Howard (American Fork, UT) had 3 hits and Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) added 2 hits as did Tim Holyk. Cade Stuff (Great Falls, MT) and Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) each had a double and 2 RBI while Lewis Johnson (Evans Head, Australia) had a 2 RBI single. 

Jett Hasegawa had a stellar effort on the mound throwing a complete game 2-hitter. The Brisbaine, Australia native struck out 6 Cougars and did not allow a walk in 6 innings of work. 

The two teams will play another doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 & 2:00 PM.
