Game 1
Miles CC 1 - NJC 2
Dawson Parry (American Fork, UT) cracked the first home run of the 2021 season but that was the only hit the Pioneers could muster up in a season opening 2-1 loss to Northeastern Junior College on Friday afternoon in Sterling, Colorado. The bats were cold to open up the 2021 campaign as 9 Pioneers struck out and only had 5 baserunners in the game. Chase Linn (Great Falls, MT) had a strong game on the mound giving up only one run on six hits over the course of four innings. Dylan Rydalch (Rexburg, ID) came in to pitch the final two innings and took the loss.
Game 2
Miles CC 8 - NJC 7
After a old start in game one, the Pioneers sprinted out to a six-run lead in the first inning and held off a big Plainsmen rally for an 8-7 victory over Northeastern Junior College on Saturday in the second game of the season opening doubleheader. Northeastern Junior College rallied with a five run 3rd inning but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers held on. MCC got things moving in the first inning, scoring on a couple of bases loaded walks and a 3-run double by Cade Stuff (Great Falls, MT) to end the first inning. Dawson Parry kept his hot bat going as he went 4-4 at the plate driving in one run and scoring two others. Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) went 2-4 at the plate while Keith Manby drove in two runs in the win.
Jaxon Grogan (Parker, CO) picked up the win as the Pioneers used five pitchers in game 2.
The two teams will go at it again Saturday and Sunday in doubleheader action in Sterling.
