The Miles Community College 2020 Baseball season started with a bang Saturday in Billings. The Pioneers swept a 3-game series with the Montana State University Club Team in a prelude to next week's spring break trip to Arizona where MCC will play 16 games in 10 days. They play next against Waldorf JV on Saturday, March 7.
Game 1 - Miles 13... MSU 0
Sophomore Keith Manby (White Rock, British Columbia) earned his first win of the season allowing only 2 hits and striking out eight in 5 innings of work as the game ended early due to the 10 run rule. Freshman Deklan Harper (Laurel, MT) led the Pioneers offensively going 3-3 with 5 RBI including a grand slam. The Pioneers piled on 11 runs in the 4th inning. Also knocking home runs in Game 1 were Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) and Dawson Parry (American Fork, Utah). Krump had 3 RBI on the day.
Game 2 - Miles 10... MSU 0
Sophomore Anthony Bleggi (Driggs, ID) tossed a 5-inning no hitter in game 2 on Saturday afternoon. Bleggi also struck out 9 batters in the gem. Keith Manby stepped off the mound after his game 1 pitching effort to go 2-2 and drive in 5 runs that included a grand slam in the 2nd inning. Lewis Johnson (Evans Head, Australia) had two hits and scored 2 runs.
Game 3 - Miles 14... MSU 2
Dawson Parry cracked 4 hits to lead the offensive charge as the Pioneers ended Saturday scoring 37 runs to sweep the series. The Pioneers scored 7 runs in the fifth inning as Stockton Brems (American Fork, UT), Deklan Harper, Cade Stuff (Great Falls, MT), Lewis Johnson, Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, British Columbia), and Ryota Kusumoto (Cairns, Australia) all had RBI's in the inning. Jett Hasegawa (Brisbane, Australia) picked up the win in game 3. He allowed 0 hits in his 2 innings of work. Chris Rofe (Sydney, Australia), and Sean O'Hagan (Thorton, Colorado) came in to finish out the game pitching.
