The MCC Pioneer rodeo teams competed in the MSU-Northern Rodeo in Havre on Friday and Saturday.
For the Pioneer men, Rope Roghair (Isabel, South Dakota) once again dominated in the saddle bronc riding. He finished 2nd place in the long go with a score of 74 and then won the short go with a score of 69. His total of 143 gave him an 8-point victory over the 2nd place finisher. According to Coach Sylvan LaCross, "This should now move Roghair up to 3rd place in the Big Sky standings." Roghair scored 170 points in the event for the Pioneer men.
Josie Menzel made another great goat tying run in the short round to take 3rd in the round with a time of 6.8 seconds. Menzel did not place in the long go with a time of 6.9 seconds but her combined times of 13.7 did get her a 4th place finish in the average. The points she gathered this weekend should place her in the top 15 in the Big Sky standings according to Coach LaCross. Menzel scored 70 points for the MCC Women.
Roghair and Travis Storm (Meadow, SD) qualified for the short round at 9th place in the team roping but had some tough luck in the short round.
The Pioneers will host 2 rodeos next weekend at the Ag Advancement Center in Miles City, MT. Rodeo #1 will take place on Thursday (April 24) and Friday (April 25). Rodeo #2 wil take place on Saturday (April 26) and Sunday (April 27). Shows are Thursday at 7:00 PM, Friday at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Rodeo 2 shows are Saturday at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM with the final show on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
Coach LaCross said, "We are looking forward to competing in the home arena. We have most of the preparation in place so that we can still place a large amount of focus on practice while still putting the final touches on the arena and schedule for the weekend! Should be four great days of rodeo action here at home and we are hoping to make a splash!"
