Game 1 - Pioneers 3... Williston State 1 (8 Innings)

Rylynn Krein (P - Fergus Falls, MN) blasted a walk off 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning as the MCC Pioneers slipped by the Williston State Tetons 3-1 in game 1 on Sunday afternoon in Miles City, MT. 

Sunday's game 1 turned in to a pitcher's dual as the teams combined for just 5 hits thru the first 6 innings of play. 

The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning when Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID) walked and eventually scored on a Williston State error. Williston State evened the game up in the top of the 5th inning after a 2-out triple and a bunt that scored the runner from 3rd. 

In extra innings, teams get to place a runner on 2nd base to start the inning. MCC was able to get out of a jam in the top of the 8th as the Tetons had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out but Krein struck out the next 2 batters to get to the bottom of the 8th at 1-1. 

Webb was placed on 2nd to start the inning and was moved to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt from Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT). That set the stage for Krein's walk off home run. 

Krein pitched 8 full innings (5 H, R, 6 SO) to pick up the win.

Game 2 - Pioneers 1... Williston State 13 (5 Innings)

Williston State scored early and often and ran away from the Pioneers in game 2 with a 13-1 win in 5 innings. Williston State piled on 5 runs in the top of the 1st inning and then scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 runs in each the 4th and 5th inning to outdistance the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning when MCC picked up 2 of their 4 hits in the game. Rylynn Krein singled and Addison Sanders (DP - Idaho Falls, ID) doubled with 1 out. Madison Moorman (RF - Laurel, MT) walked to load the bases and Rhanda Vindiola (LF - Columbus, MT) grounded in to a fielder's choice that scored Krein. 

Harley Brown (Great Falls, MT) got the start on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings (9 H, 7 R) and was replaced by Kayla Jensen for the final 2.2 innings (7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 SO).

  • The Pioneers had 4 hits (2B) and the Tetons had 16 hits (2 HR, 2 2B).
  • MCC committed 2 errors.
  • Each team had 2 stolen bases. 
  • Pioneer batters did not strike out, walked 4 times, and were hit by pitch twice.

Both teams are now 10-4 in MonDak Conference play and tied with Dawson for 2nd place. The Pioneers and Tetons will play a doubleheader Monday afternoon in Williston with 1st pitch coming at 12:00 PM MDT.
