Pioneers Complete Sweep of Royals With 2 More Wins on Sunday

Game 1 - Pioneers 8... Lake Region State 0 (6 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers pushed in at least 1 run in every inning except the 1st and Rylynn Krein tossed a 3-hit shutout as the Pioneers earned their 2nd shutout win in 3 games over the Lake Region State College Royals. 

MCC played Sunday's games as the visiting team and would get all the runs they would need in the top of the 2nd inning by scoring twice. Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT) led off the inning with a single and Paityn Ralphs (1B - Ammon, ID) was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Emily Robins (CF - Rexburg, ID) singled to drive in 2 runs. 

In the 3rd inning, Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID) singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT). Krein drove Webb in with a single. 

The Pioneers got back to back doubles for another run in the 4th inning from Robins and Sarah Koskela (RF - Thompson Falls, MT) for a 4-0 lead. MCC piled on 3 runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a 2-run home run off the bat of Sydney Goldbar (2B - Missoula, MT). 

MCC walked the game off in the 6th inning by drawing a bases loaded walk.

Schaffer and Robins each had 2 hits, while Goldbar and Robins had 2 RBI. 

Krein pitched 6 innings (3 H, 2 BB, 5 SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 10 hits (HR, 2 2B) and the Royals had 3.
  • Lake Region had the only error in the game.

Game 2 - Pioneers 10... Lake Region 7

The MCC Pioneers built a 7-0 lead only to watch the LRSC Royals pile 7 runs on the board in the 4th inning to tie the game, but did just enough in the top of the 7th to walk away from the weekend series with a 4-game sweep with a 10-7 win over the Royals. 

MCC got on the board 1st with an RBI single from Brooke Schaffer. The Pioneers tacked on 4 runs in the top of the 3rd for a 5-0 lead. Brooklyn Ostermiller (SS - Huntley, MT) led the inning off with a single. She moved to 2nd on a bunt from Addison Sanders (DP - Idaho Falls, ID). Schaffer then drove in her 2nd run of the game with a single. Sanders moved to 3rd on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly RBI from Liz Cunningham (RF - Polson, MT). Ava Lund (C - Belgrade, MT) hit her 2nd home run in as many games to add 2 RBI to her total. 

Malory Webb led the 4th inning off with a walk and moved to 2nd off a single from Ostermiller. Sanders walked to load the bases and Schaffer drove in another run With a sacrifice fly RBI. The final run of the inning came off a Cunningham RBI single. 

The game was tied 7-7 going to the 7th inning and MCC was able to complete the sweep by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th and shutting down the Royals in the bottom of the inning. Cunningham singled and was replaced on the base path by Emily Robins. Robins stole 2nd moved to 3rd on a fly out. Rylynn Krein tripled to drive in Robins and scored on a sacrifice fly RBI by Rhanda Vindiola (CF - Columbus, MT). The Pioneers final run came on a Lake Region error. 

Ostermiller, Schaffer, and Cunningham had 2 hits each. Schaffer had 3 RBI while Cunningham and Lund had 2. 

Kayla Jensen (Lewistown, MT) got the start and pitched 4.1 innings (11 H, 7 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 SO). Krein pitched the final 2.2 innings (5 SO).

The Pioneers move to 9-3 in MonDak Conference play and are 21-15 overall. MCC will face Williston State on Saturday in Williston and Sunday in Miles City. Both doubleheaders start at 1:00 PM local time.
