Pioneer Softball Splits 2nd Day of Series with Dawson

Game 1 - Pioneers 4... Dawson 1

One day after losing two heart breaking games in walkoff fashion agains Dawson CC, the Pioneers were able to get over the hump and hold the lead for a victory in Miles City. 

MCC got a strong pitching outing from Rylynn Krein (7.0 IP, 5 H, R, 2 BB, 4 SO) and got a 2-run home run off the bat of Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT) for the only runs the Pioneers would need in a 4-1 win to salvage game 3 of a 4-game series. Lowell's home run came after Emily Robins (CF - Rexburg, ID) led the game off with a single. 

Dawson cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the 4th and the Pioneers answered with a run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Paityn Ralphs (1B - Ammon, ID) led the inning off with a double and scored on a RBI single from Adrie Mortensen (C - Rexburg, ID) with one out. MCC got their final run of the game in the 6th inning after Ralphs singled and was driven in on a double from Sydney Goldbar (2B - Missoula, MT). 

Lowell had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Ralphs, Goldbar, and Mortensen each had 2 hits. 

The victory for Krein made her the all time win leader for MCC softball as well as the all time strike out leader. 

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC had 10 hits (HR, 2 2B) and DCC had 5 hits (2B).
  • Each team had 2 stolen bases. 
  • Neither team committed an error. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 5 times and walked 8 times. 
  • Buccaneer batters struck out 4 times, walked twice, and were hit by pitch once. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 5... Dawson 8

Dawson scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning to rally from a 5-4 deficit and was able to hang on for a 8-5 win to take 3 out of 4 games of a crucial MonDak Conference series. 

Dawson got the early jump on the Pioneers with 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Pioneer were able to push across a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single from Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT). 

The Buccaneers took a 4-1 lead with a run in the top of the 2nd and MCC answered that score with a run of their own in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Rhanda Vindiola (RF - Columbus, MT) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 

The Pioneers then took a 5-4 lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Brylee Lowell scored on a base hit from Schaffer and Paityn Ralphs followed that with a 2 RBI single. 

Dawson was able to counter the 3 Pioneer runs with 3 of their own in the top of the 5th inning and held MCC scoreless the rest of the way to secure the victory after getting 1 more run in the top of the 7th. 

Ralphs had a 3-3 effort at the plate with 2 RBI. Schaffer was 2-2 with 2 RBI and Ava Lund (C - Belgrade, MT) also had 2 hits including a double. 

Kayla Jensen (Lewistown, MT) got the pitching start and went 4.2 innings (7 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) and was replaced by Harley Brown (Great Falls, MT) for the final 2.1 innings (3 H, R).

  • The Pioneers had 11 hits (2B) and the Buccaneers had 10 (HR, 2B). 
  • Each team committed 2 errors. 
  • Dawson had the only 2 stolen bases in the game. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 6 times, walked 4 times, and were hit by pitch 3 times. 
  • Buccaneer batters struck out twice, walked 3 times, and were hit by pitch twice. 

The Pioneers are now 5-3 in MonDak Conference play and 17-15 overall. Next up is a 4-game series in Miles City against Lake Region State College. 1st pitch is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday and 12:00 PM on Sunday
