Pioneer Softball Wins Games in 2 Different Ways on Saturday

Game 1 - Pioneers 17... Bismarck State 9 (5 Innings)

MCC scored multiple runs in all 5 innings and survived a 7-run 3rd inning by the Mystics and eventually plated 5 runs in the 5th inning to post a 17-9 win over Bismarck State on Saturday in Miles City, MT. 

Bismarck State got on the board first with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Pioneers quickly took the lead with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st. All 4 MCC runs came with 2 outs. Rian Ferriter (3B - Butte, MT) had a 2 RBI double, Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT) had a RBI double, and Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) had a RBI single. 

The Pioneers picked up 2 more runs in the 2nd inning on the strength of a 2-run home run from Arin Eaton (CF - Belgrade, MT) and built a 6-2 lead. Bismarck State's 7-run 3rd inning gave the Mystics a 9-6 lead. MCC quickly tied the game up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Once again, all 3 Pioneer runs came with 2 outs. Brylee Lowell (RF - Columbus, MT) had a RBI single and Eaton added to her big day with a 2 RBI double. 

MCC then took a 12-9 lead with 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Hernandez had a RBI double and the other 2 runs came on a a wild pitch and a Mystic error. The Pioneers then ended the contest with 5 runs in the 5th inning. Hernandez had a 2 RBI double and Robinson followed with a RBI single. Hernandez scored on a fielder's choice hit by Lowell and the game ended on a RBI single from Malory Webb

  • The Pioneers had 19 hits (HR, 6 2B, Hernandez 3 2B). 
  • The Mystics had 9 hits (5 2B).
  • Each team had 1 error. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out once and walked 3 times. 
  • Mystic batters struck out 5 times, walked 5 times, and were hit by pitch twice. 
  • MCC had the only stolen base of the game. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 2... Bismarck State 0

Game 2 boiled down to two simple things for the MCC Pioneers. The bat of Dalilah Hernandez (DP - Laurel, MT) and the right arm of Rylie Schlepp (P - Helena, MT). Hernandez connected for a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning for the only runs of the game. Schlepp tossed a 5-hit shutout while walking only 2 and striking out 5 as neither team could get anything going offensively after the 1st inning and MCC swept the doubleheader. 

The Pioneers only 2 hits in the game came in the 1st inning as Malory Webb led the game off with an infield single before the Hernandez home run.
