Game 1 - Pioneers 10... Lake Region State 0 (5 Innings)

Hazel Eaton pitched a gem with a complete game shutout and the Pioneers took game 1 of the doubleheader 10-0 on Saturday afternoon. Eaton was mostly untouchable over 5 innings (4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 SO) and the Pioneers strung together 10 hits to win game 1.

Miles CC got off to the hot start with 6 runs in the 1st inning. SS Sierra John (Idaho Falls, ID) started the game off with a single. CF Skylar Higgs (Livingston, MT) reached on an error and P Hazel Eaton had a 2 RBI double to center field. 3B Taylor Feller (Laurel, MT) was hit by a pitch and DP Isabelle Adams (Park City, MT) and with 2 outs C HaiLeigh Davis (Shepherd, MT) singled to drive in 2. RF Alexa Lewis (Bozeman, MT) then hit a triple to drive in Adams and the Pioneers took a 6-0 lead. 

 The score remained 6-0 until the top of the 4th inning when John led off the inning with a solo home run. With one out, Higgs singled and Hazel Eaton drew a walk. The bases loaded up when Adams reached on an error and that was followed by 2B Mars Weaver (Rexburg, ID) walking to bring in another run. Davis promptly singled to drive in to more and the Pioneers took a 10-0 lead they would hold thru the 5th inning. 

Inside the Box Score

  • HaiLeigh Davis was a perfect 3-3 (2B, 4 RBI, R). John was 2-3 (HR, RBI, 2 R) and Lewis also was 2-3 (2 RBI)
  • Lake Region committed 3 errors and the Pioneers had none. 
  • MCC had 10 hits and LRSC had 4
  • Each team drew 3 walks.
  • The Pioneers had 3 stolen bases (Higgs 2, John 1). The Royals did not have a stolen base. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 15... Lake Region State 7 (5 Innings)

The Pioneers scored runs in all 5 innings and used 5 runs in the 4th to break away from a close game, then 2 more runs in the 5th to end the game due to the 8-run rule, and hit a total of 5 home runs in the game. 

DP Morgan Lampshire (Murray, UT) blasted 2 home runs and had a 3-4 effort (2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 R) and CF Skylar Higgs was also 3-4 (HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R) in a hot hitting game for MCC. RF Alexa Lewis was 2-4 (2B, 2 R) and C Isabelle Adams had a 2-4 effort (2B, RBI, 2 R). Sierra John and LF Reed Johnson (Columbus, MT) also went deep for the Pioneers. 

MCC got 4 runs in the 1st, 3 more in the 2nd and then 1 in the 3rd before the big 5 run 4th inning. Lake Region stayed within striking distance by scoring 2 in the 1st, one in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, and one more in the 4th to cut the lead to 8-7.

Alex Carr (Idaho Falls, ID) got the start in the circle and pitched 3 complete innings (7 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 3 SO). Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) finished the final 2 innings (2 H, 2 SO).

  • The Pioneers cracked 14 hits to 9 for the Royals.
  • Lake Region had 3 errors and the Pioneers had 1.
  • MCC drew 5 walks and Pioneer pitching walked 3 Royal batters.

The Pioneers are now 8-2 in MonDak Conference play and 21-4 overall. They host Dakota College at Bottineau on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM for a doubleheader.
