Pioneer Season Ends In North Plains District Championship

The magical postseason run of the MCC Pioneers softball team came to an end Thursday afternoon in Boone, Iowa.

Game 1 - Pioneers 2... DMACC 4

The Pioneers led 2-1 until DMACC Freshman 3B Sami Miller hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning propelling the #4 Bears to a 4-2 win in game 1 of the North Plains B District Championship.

DMACC got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd as Miller hit her 1st home run of the game. The score stayed 1-0 until Pioneer SS Abby Johnson went deep with a solo blast to tie the score 1-1. Fellow Hamilton alum and 2B Tessa Della Silva then gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th with her own solo home run. A DMACC single and HBP brought Miller to the plate for the heroic blast.

The Pioneers got a single from Lilinoe Nihi with one out in the top of the 7th. Abby Johnson nearly tied the game with a shot to centerfield that hit the top of the fence for a double. Raegan Harper then reached base on catcher's interference loading the bases with 2 outs. LF Taylor Woolley then struck out swinging to end the game.

Kassidy Kinzie went 6 innings in the circle and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. Kinzie struck out 7 and walked only 1.

Game 2 - Pioneers 0... DMACC 11 (5 Innings)

DMACC pitcher Lexi Lander was the star of game 2 as she threw a complete game 1-hitter and shut out the Pioneers 11-0 to send the Bears to the NJCAA DII World Series. Lilinoe Nihi got the Pioneer's only hit of the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th inning as MCC could not mount any kind off offensive push in the game.

Kinzie got the game 2 start as well and went 2.1 innings and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits. Hazel Eaton pitched 0.2 innings and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits. Kelealani Waiau finished the final 2 innings with 4 runs on 5 hits.
