Day 1 of Doubleheader Goes Pioneers Way

Game 1 - MCC 2... NDSCS 0

In one of the rare pitchers duals of the season, Pioneer starter Kassidy Kinzie tossed a gem and the Pioneers took game 1 of a 4 game series 2-0 over the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats 2-0. Pioneer pitcher Kassidy Kinzie tossed a 5-hit complete game shut out and struck out 12 Wildcats in the victory. She walked 4 bu every time the Wildcats mounted a threat, Kinzie found a way to get out of the inning. 

The Pioneers mustered up only 3 hits but pieced together 2 runs in the 3rd inning to hold on to the victory. 2B Tessa Della Silva reached base on a fielder's choice and that was followed up by 2B Abby Johnson walking on the next at bat. CF Autumn Porter then slugged a double to center field scoring Della Silva and Johnson for the games only runs. 

Game 2 - MCC 16... NDSCS 9

A game that had some offensive firepower, the Pioneers gave up 5 first inning runs but rallied the troops for a 16-9 win and doubleheader sweep of 2nd place NDSCS Wildcats. The Pioneers have a chance to move in to 2nd place in the conference if they can sweep the Wildcats again on Thursday afternoon. 

The Pioneers pounded out 16 hits that included 4 home runs and 5 doubles in an offensive onslaught on Wednesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Kelealani Waiau gave up 5 runs in the first inning before ever recording an out. She was replaced in the circle by Hazel Eaton who game in and provided some spark going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs and 7 hits before Kassidy Kinzie came in to close things out over the final 2 innings with 0 hits and 3 strikeouts. 

The Pioneers scored a run in each of the 2B Tessa Della Silva was 1-4 at 6 innings they batted. Della Silva, C Aly Ranford, 3B Olivia Cook, and LF Taylor Woolley all went deep during the game and the Pioneers also slugged out 5 doubles in the game led by Hazel Eaton's 2. Aly Ranford, Taylor Woolley, and Megan Toplovich also doubled in the shootout. 

Woolley was 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, Cook was 2-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored as well. Autumn Porter was 2-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Catcher Aly Radford was 2-2 with 2 RBI before exiting the game with a sprained ankle sliding in to home. 

MCC is now 14-5-1 in MonDak play and 17-12-1 overall. Games vs. NDSCS on Thursday begin at 1:00 PM MST.
