Pioneer Softball Takes Two From Tetons

Game 1 - Pioneers 11... Tetons 1 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers softball team broke open a 1 run game with 4 runs in the 4th and followed that up with 5 runs in the 5th to walk away with a 11-1 win in 5 innings on Monday afternoon. 

1B Tessa Della Silva got things rolling in the 1st inning with a double and CF Autumn Porter followed that up with a RBI single to put the Pioneers up 1-0 and then Porter scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. Williston State then scored in the 3rd inning to close the gap to 2-1. The game blew open in the top of the 4th when Della Silva singled with the bases loaded that scored Megan Toplovich and Hazel Eaton. SS Abby Johnson followed that up with a double to center field that scored Janie Nelson and Della Silva to give MCC a 6-1 lead. 

In the top of the 5th, 3B Olivia Cook walked and reached 2nd on a passed ball. Cook later scored on an PH Ashlin Hiller line drive who reached on an error. Reagan Harper then came in to pinch hit, singling to center field and scoring Hiller. Toplovich then doubled bringing in Harper to make the score 9-1 MCC. Pinch hitter Lili Nihi then doubled in Toplovich and C Aly Radford singled in Hazel Eaton who re-entered the game for Nihi to give the Pioneers a 10-run lead that would end the game after 5 innings. 

Kassidy Kinzie pitched a complete game 4-hitter and struck out 8 Tetons. She allowed only 4 hits and the 1 run in 5 innings. 

Game 2 - Pioneers 13 ... Tetons 3 (5 Innings)

Once again the 4th and 5th innings turned out to be the hot spot for MCC softball as the Pioneers broke a 3-3 tie with 3 runs in the 4th and then tacked on 7 more in the 5th to run away with a 13-3 win in 5 innings. CF Autumn Porter had a huge game at the plate going 4-4 with 2 triples, a home run, and 5 RBI's. 1B Lilinoe Nihi also came up big hitting as she went 3-3 with 3 RBI. The Pioneers smacked around 15 hits in the game and didn't strike out at all. 

SS Abby Johnson got things started in the 1st inning with a triple. She scored on a Porter triple and then Porter scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 start. With the score 2-1 in the top of the 3rd, Porter singled and reached 3rd on 2 errors by the Teton catcher. Nihi hit a sacrifice fly to the outfield to score Porter and make the score 3-1. Williston State rallied to tie things up in the bottom of the 3rd with 2 runs to make it 3-3.

The daggers came in the top of the 4th as the Pioneers mounted a 2 out rally to score 3 times. Johnson reached 1st on a Teton error and scored on another triple by Porter. 3B Olivia Cook doubled in Porter and Nihi followed that up with a double of her own to bring in Cook and make the score 6-3. The Pioneer 5th inning scoring also took place with 2 outs. Following 2 Teton errors that allowed Kelealani Waiau and Johnson to reach base, Porter slugged a 3-run homer to make the score 9-3. 3B Olivia Cook then walked, reached 2nd on a passed ball, and was singled in by Nihi. LF Taylor Woolley then singled and RF Ashlin Hiller drove in courtesy runner Samantha Burke with a double to left field. Woolley then scored on a wild pitch and the Pioneers made it 13-3 on a double by Janie Nelson that plated Hiller. 

Pitchers Reagan Harper and Kelealani Waiau combined on a 2-hitter and combined to strike out 8 Tetons. Harper gave up 3 runs while walking 3 in 2 2/3 innings and Waiau allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 1/3 innings of work. The Pioneers are 11-5-1 in MonDak Conference play and 14-12-1 overall. They return to the diamond Wednesday for a doubleheader vs. North Dakota State College of Science in Miles City at 1:00 PM.
