Game 1 - Pioneers 0... Lake Region 5
Lake Region got off to a hot start scoring 5 runs in the first 2 innings and the MCC Pioneers once again had their bats silenced and struggled to score as the Royals snagged a 5-0 win in Devils Lake, ND. The Royals bats were hot in the first 2 innings getting 2 doubles to start off the first inning and followed that up with back to back home runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Pioneers outhit the Royals 8-6 in the game but couldn't push anyone across home plate.
SS Abby Johnson was 2-4 with a double and Megan Toplovich was 2-3 but MCC could not get the timely hit. The Pioneers struck out 7 times and walked only once.
Ashlin Hiller got the start for the Pioneers but only lasted 1/3 inning giving up 3 hits and 2 runs and walked 1. She gave way to Reagan Harper who pitched 1 inning and gave up 2 more runs on 2 hits. Kelealani Waiau came in to pick up the pieces and threw a solid 4 2/3 innings of one hit ball and struck out 8 batters. She allowed only 1 run.
Game 2 - Pioneers 9... Lake Region 0
Entering game 2 with a 5-game losing streak, the Pioneers needed to get the bats going and Kelealani Waiau picked up where she left off game 1 the circle and the Pioneers cruised to a 9-0 win in 5 innings of the 2nd game.
Waiau stopped the Royals attack throwing a complete game 4-hitter and striking out 8 in a dominating performance in the circle. Waiau threw 9 2/3 innings and gave up only 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 16 Royals.
Offensively, the Pioneers found a little bit of a grove by homering twice and hitting 2 doubles to pick up 9 runs in 5 innings. 1B Lilinoe Nihi went 2-3 with a home run and 2 runs scored and LF Taylor Woolley also went deep and drove in 2 for MCC. CF Autumn Porter was 2-2 and scored twice while Tessa Della Silva was 1-1 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
The Pioneers and Royals will play 2 more Sunday morning in Devils Lake at 10:00 AM MST.
