Rough Day for Pioneers at Trinidad State

Game 1 - Pioneers 2... Trinidad State 11

Thursday's doubleheader at Trinidad State College started out with a bang for the Pioneers. Tessa Della Silva (Hamilton, MT) started out the game with a solo home run to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Things quickly went south and the Trojans held the Pioneers at bay in an 11-2 Trinidad State victory. TSJC rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and then 4 more in the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th. The game ended after 5 due to the 8-run rule. 

Raegan Harper (Billings, MT) was 2-3 as was Hazel Eaton (Belgrade, MT) who also had a double in the game. The Pioneers had 8 hits and the Trojans had 11 runs on 9 hits but Pioneer pitchers allowed 8 walks. Kassidy Kinzie (Plains, MT) got the start and gave up 8 runs on 6 hits with 4 walks in 2 innings of work. Harper finished off the final 2 innings giving up 3 runs on  hits and also walked 4 batter. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 3... Trinidad State 17

Game 2 was much of the same as the Trojans bats stayed hot scoring 17 runs on 16 hits. The Pioneers efforts were again led by Della Silva who had 2 of the 4 hits going 2-3 with a triple and a home run for 2 RBI. Megan Toplovich went deep with a solo shot to account for the Pioneers scoring. Ashlin Hiller (Lolo, MT) got the pitching start and went 2 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits. Eaton took over from there giving up 9 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks. 

The Pioneers will end the road trip tomorrow with another doubleheader in La Junta, Colorado against Otero Junior College. The Pioneers are now 3-5 on the young season.
