Pioneer Rodeo Hosts 2 Performances at Ag Advancement Center

Rodeo 1

With the rodeo season winding down for the 2024-25 school year, the MCC Pioneers finally got to be the host school after doing much travel previous to this event. MCC held the Pioneer Showdown April 24-27 with 2 rodeos on their home turf of Champion Arena at the Ag Advancement Center. Rodeo #1 took place on Thursday and Friday with performances both evenings and slack on Friday afternoon. 

Rope Roghair (Isabel, South Dakota) continued his strong season in Saddle Bronc by winning the average with a score of 121, easily outdistancing the 2nd place rider by 40 points. Roghair finished 2nd in the long go with a score of 57 and another 2nd place finish in the short go with a score of 64 to lead him to the title. 

Hailey Wold (Plentywood, MT) finished in a tie for 5th in Breakaway Roping for the long go but didn't point in the short go. Billi Fortier (Wildrose, ND) missed the short round in Breakaway Roping by one spot and Taylor Burgee (Onida, SD) missed by 3 spots.

Rodeo 2

Rodeo 2 saw Roghair perform well in saddle bronc again as he scored 45 in the Long Go and 60 in the short go for a 2nd place total of 105. 

Gus Lee (Choteau, MT) and Caydon Wolbaum (Bowman, ND) teamed up to take 5th place in the long go with a time of 8 seconds. 

Josie Menzel (Philip, SD) finished 2nd place (6.5 seconds) in the long go but didn't score in the short go or the average. Taylor Burgee missed the short round by 1 spot in Breakaway roping. 

The Pioneer men scored 150 points (5th place) and girls scored 50 points (5th place).

The team will head to Missoula for the final rodeo of the 2024-25 season on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. The performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM with slack at 10:00 AM Saturday. 

Roghair currently leads the region in Saddlebronc Riding and is in the drivers seat to qualify for the CNFR in June.
