Pioneers Compete at MSU Rodeos to Open Spring Season; Roghair Wins Saddle Bronc

MSU Rodeo #1

The MCC Pioneers kicked off the spring rodeo season with 2 rodeos at the Montana State University Spring Event.

All of the Pioneer points came in Saddle Bronc Riding. The Pioneers scored 170 points to finish in 4th place.

Rope Roghair (Isabel, SD) finished 1st in the short go (72 points) and 4th in the long go (64 points). That got him a 3rd place finish in the overall with 136 points. Payton Kuntz (Miles City, MT) finished in 2nd place in the short go (70 points) but was unable to score in the long go so failed to point in the average standings. The pair scored all 170 team points for the event.

MSU Rodeo #2

Rope Roghair was the saddle bronc champion in rodeo #2. Roghair was 1st in the short go with 77.5 points and finished 4th in the long go with 60 points. His total of 137.5 points was good enough to win the buckle over 2nd place rider from Montana State with 129 points. Roghair gathered the most points in saddle bronc riding over the weekend with 272 points helping him get back in the hunt for a shot at the CNFR. He is now less than 100 points out of the top 3 and will be looking to close the gap this weekend in Havre.

MCC scored 150 points to finish in 5th place.

On the women's side, Josie Menzel (Philip, South Dakota) finished in 6th place in goat tying with a total time of 14.9 seconds. Menzel finished in a tie for 3rd in the short round with a time of 7.4 seconds. Her time of 7.5 seconds in the long go did not get her in the top 6 but was able to hang on to a top 6 spot in the overall.

MCC women scored 40 points to finish in 5th place.

The teams will head to Havre, MT for the MSU-Northern Rodeo on Friday and Saturday.
